Asin was born in Kochi, Kerala, India to Seline and Joseph Thottumkal. She hails from Thottumkal family which is a Syrian Catholic (Nasrani) family spread mainly in Thodupuzha, Muvattupuzha and Pala. Her father is a businessman and her mother a surgeon. Asin did her schooling in Naval Public School and St.Teresa's Higher Secondary School in Kochi. She then secured a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from St. Teresa's College in Kochi. Later on, she took up several modelling assignments.
